Korean BBQ is delicious but sometimes you need a refreshing side dish to balance the meaty and hearty flavor. In comes mu ssam mari i.e. Korean radish wraps. This dish pairs perfectly with heavier dishes or even makes for a great main dish with a bowl of rice depending on what you place inside the radish wraps. The combination is plentiful and good for your waist line! When serving with other heartier dishes I like to keep the filling light with a mix of vegetables, imitation crab meat and a Korean hot mustard sauce. When making it as a main dish, thin strips of beef are delicious and I’ve even used left over turkey meat after Thanksgiving with a mix of vegetables to fill the wraps. Really, it’s a perfect recipe to empty your fridge of any vegetables or ingredients that will start to look not so great in a few days.
I’ve made this on a few occasions and it’s always been for housewarmings because it pairs so well with heartier dishes and is relatively simple (minus all the chopping) and requires minimal oven or stove space that is usually preoccupied by other warm dishes. I mentioned in the last post that we had a housewarming recently and this Korean radish wrap made its way to the table as well and was very popular – even with the boys who try to steer clear of too many vegetables!
