On the Korean variety show, “The Manager” also known as “Omniscient Interfering View”, celebrities and their managers are followed through their work and daily schedules. Chef Yoon Nam No appears as a guest and is asked how he would make an upgraded bowl of ramyun at home for a beginner cook. Using only common pantry ingredients, he walks through his simple method step by step, and the clip quickly went viral on YouTube.
Key Step for Upgrading Ramyun
- The most important step is creating a red pepper oil by pan frying gochugaru with the spicy ramen powder packet. Bring out extra umami flavor with adding soy sauce into the red-pepper oil mix before any water is added.
- Add in minced garlic at the end for a punch of flavor
These small steps add layers of richness and complexity to an otherwise basic bowl of instant noodles.
